Prompt adoption of digital technologies is set high standards on IT organizations. As spending on eMarketing, cloud, mobile, analytics, and social technology increase, CIOs have the responsibility to drive strategy, innovation, and revenue growth. In parallel, these technologies involve new challenges in the historical domain of IT: building and integrating information systems with other corporate's functions while cost-effectively operating a reliable and secure infrastructure. Modern CIO must play a dual role: builder of technology, builder of the business & builder of bridges between these worlds.
Nowadays, leading CIOs describe their roles in terms such as “imagination,” “chief innovation officer,” and “revenue-generator CIO”. Seventy percent of them feel extremely close to CEO day to day activities but half of them feel unable to cope with the pace of change brought by digital technologies.
